2018-19 Ray Murray Awards

The New Jersey Colonials announce Boys Team Award Recipients for the 2018-19 season.

The New Jersey Colonials are proud to announce the Boys Team Award Recipients for the 2018-19 season.Ray Murray Achievement Award (Boys) –   Players demonstrating the values shown by former Colonial, Ray Murray: hard work, determination, team spirit, good sportsmanship, discipline, and leadership were selected by their coaches.  Ray Murray, was a founding member of the New Jersey Colonials who served as a coach and Board Member.   He was a prominent figure in New Jersey hockey, having started the Morris County Colonials.   Ray embodied the true essence of sportsmanship and promoted strong personal values that serve as the foundation for this award.


18U Midget National AAA – Jack Pedersen

“Jack has a great work ethic, strong character, and leadership skills. He always comes to work and would do anything for the team. He has a great attitude and loves the game of hockey. Jack has aspirations of playing junior hockey next year to see how far he can take his game. He has all the intangibles a coach would want and is a pleasure to coach. He is honest, hardworking, and has integrity.” – Coach Chase Watson


18U Midget AA – Jude Scerbo

“Jude is a passionate competitor, a playmaker, a finisher and a motivator. In our Pittsburgh tournament, Jude had a season-ending injury, unfortunately, but not before he played in two tournament games with the injury, fighting through extreme pain. We missed him greatly in the playoffs.  He was all-energy all the time and a huge contributor to our team’s success.” – Coach Rick Stockton 


18U Midget A – John Spitznagel

“John has shown what it means to be a leader and role model not only to myself and his peers on the ice, but as well off the ice. His focus on his education off the ice and consistent determination on the ice makes him the perfect candidate for this award. John is the type of person who sets his mind to a task and will achieve it. That’s a trait that is hard to come by and almost impossible to teach.” – Coach Jeff Lucas


16U Midget National AAA – David Chen


16U Midget American AAA – Jack Keller

“Jack is one of the most coachable players I have add the opportunity to coach and comes to the rink every day determined to improve his skills and gain as much knowledge about the game as he can. Jack leads by example with his play on the ice and is a positive voice in the locker room.” – Coach Brendon Herr

“Demetrios knows the meaning of hard work and has shown good sportsmanship, self-discipline and dedication to his team. Demetrios was the team’s only goalie and played every minute of every game. There were times when he played injured and he faced well over 1000 shots this season. Along with his many routine saves he made many spectacular saves. He has a high regard for authority which has earned him the respect of his teammates and his coaches. It was a pleasure to be his coach this season.” – Coach John Mores

“Gus is looked up to as a leader on the Pee Wee A team and has shown his leadership qualities in both game and practice situations. Gus pushes his teammates in practice to perform at a higher level but does it in a truly caring fashion.  In a game, he is always ready to go and will jump on the ice in any situation.  When you look down the bench in a critical moment, he is a player that you want on the ice.  Gus is a great teammate and someone that every individual on the team looks up to both on and off the ice.” – Coach Mike Sullivan

“Bric works hard every shift and practice. He exemplifies positive sportsmanship on the bench and off the ice. Bric has played a large role in our teams success because of his work ethic and his versatility on the ice.” – Coach Mark Glass

“Ryan shows up to the rink everyday with a smile on his face. His positive attitude and his compete level made him one of the leaders on the team. He always is able to find the positive things that happen in games and lifts his team up when it is needed. He is a very athletic and skillful goalie who has the ability to steal games for his team. With his positive attitude and his ability I truly believe he will develop into a great goalie.” – Coach Tyler Lee
