The New Jersey Colonials announce 2019 recipients of the Donna Guariglia Achievement Award.
The New Jersey Colonials are proud to announce the 2019 recipients of the Donna Guariglia Achievement Award.
Donna Guariglia Achievement Award (Girls). Players demonstrating the values shown by former Colonials President, Donna Guariglia: hard work, determination, team spirit, good sportsmanship, discipline and leadership were selected by their coaches. Donna Guariglia was a driving force in bringing Girls/Women’s hockey to the New Jersey Colonials. She spent a lifetime actively involved as a player, parent and advocate. Donna currently sits on the Board of Directors for USA Hockey. She has also served as President of MAWHA and USA Hockey Section Director for Girls’/ Women’s Hockey.
19U Major – Melanie Conca
“Melanie showed up for every game this season ready to contribute to the team however she can. Melanie can always be counted on to work hard and encourage her teammates to do the same. ‘Mel’ helps those around her be better with her positive attitude, encouragement and tenacity. We wish Mel all the best next year at Connecticut College where she will certainly make a huge impact on the program.” — Coach Shannon Paskaris
19U Minor – Giulia Socolof
“Giulia is a hard working hockey player, she demonstrates all the attributes listed in the nomination description for this award, besides being a dedicated hockey player and a loyal Colonial Giulia is also an exceptional student at her school.” — Coach Tai DeNunzio
16U Major – Gia Massari
16U Minor – Caroline Sharp
“Caroline was named team captain in the beginning of the year for the exact reasons she is being given this award. Aside from being the most dedicated and committed player on our team, Caroline holds herself to the highest standards. She is respectful to her teammates, opponents and any others that come in her path. She gives 110% each and every time she is on the ice whether it is during practices or games. Being around Caroline helps you grow as a player and as a person. She is a naturally gifted leader.” — Coaches Gina Arnone and Dennis Crothers

“Chelsea lived the values of Donna Guariglia all season long. Chelsea was a constant at practices and games – and brought her very best each time she hit the ice. Chelsea is hard working, earnest, disciplined, respectful, highly coachable, willing to play any position on the ice – and an all around great teammate. Thank you Chelsea for everything you added to the 12U minor team this year.” — Coach Todd Builione
10U Major – Emerson Murphy
“Emerson has shown great growth this year on and off the ice. She comes to each practice/game with a smile and ready to work hard. She is a very coachable player and is easily our most improved player. She is well liked in the locker room and a great teammate.” — Coach Corey Brown
10U Minor – Brooke Di Loreto
“Brooke was the cornerstone of our defense all season. She leads the team by example on the ice by fighting for every pick and always giving 100%” — Coach Meghan Cassidy
08U Development – Kyra Kishbaugh
“Kyra was a great teammate all season long. She loves being on the ice, and is always positive, full of energy, and supports her teammates! She even stepped in as goaltender and encouraged others to try it out! We are so glad to have her in the Colonials organization, and cannot wait to see what the future holds for her!” — Coach Shelly Picard
