NJC Adds Coach Ryan Carter
Carter will coach Youth Tier 2, 16U AA in 2021-22 season.
The New Jersey Colonials are pleased to announce Ryan Carter as the Head Coach for the Youth Tier 2, 16U AA team. He brings a wealth of coaching experience from youth, girls and high school hockey. He is a true asset to the organization.
“I am excited to be part of the New Jersey Colonials organization. Since my time as a youth hockey player, the Colonials have always demonstrated a commitment to excellence both on and off the ice. I look forward to being a part of their established competitive culture and tradition,” Carter expressed.
Carter is the head coach of Saint Joseph High School varsity hockey in Metuchen, NJ. During his tenure at Saint Joseph High School, varsity hockey has posted an impressive 183-84-28 record, captured 12 consecutive regular-season league conference crowns, eight of the last ten Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Championships and back-to-back Egan Conference titles in 2016-17. The hockey program has been ranked among the Top 10 teams in New Jersey throughout his tenure. He was named Coach of the Year by The Home News Tribune (2012, 2013, 2019) and Greater Middlesex County Conference (2013, 2019).
Possessing a proven record of moving players on to the junior and college ranks, Carter scouted for the USHL Des Moines Buccaneers from 2018-2020. Two former players became NHL Entry Draft selections, including 2020 Norris Trophy finalist, John Carlson of the Washington Capitals. He served as a coaching director for the Woodbridge Wolfpack, New Jersey Rockets and Princeton Tigers Youth travel hockey clubs. He has worked with both youth and girls teams.
Carter was inducted to the Saint Joseph Metuchen Hall of Fame for his stellar high school hockey career. He stands as the fourth-leading scorer in school history (151 points – 75 goals, 76 assists). He continued playing at Trinity College School in Port Hope, Ontario and then Norwich University in Vermont.
A true student of the game, Carter received the 2018 USA Hockey Bob O’Connor award for his commitment to coaching education. He continues to serve as the Atlantic District Associate Coach-In-Chief and ADM On-Ice Coordinator.
