NJ Dare Devils Visit NJC

JOINT PRACTICE/SCRIMMAGE YIELDS LOTS OF FUN AND SMILES

The New Jersey Colonials 12U Major Girls AAA team hosted the NJ Dare Devils as part of a day of community service and enrichment on December 3, 2023 at Mennen Sports Arena in Morris Township, NJ.  Who are the NJ Dare Devils?  They provide individuals with developmental disabilities an opportunity to participate in ice hockey in an adapted learning environment known as special hockey. Coach Todd Drevitch and the Dare Devils coach, Myles Mitchell introduced the drills during the ice session but the girls did the coaching.  Also, assisting on the ice were volunteers from the Dare Devils and Colonials Coach Jenn Docherty.

“To say that I am proud of the girls is an understatement.  They were all so caring, patient, and helped make this such a unique and special day for all.   I would also like to thank Steve Choi for helping to set this up,” said Coach Drevitch.

The NJ Colonials girls…

  • Greeted the Dare Devils parents and players in the lobby and escorted them to their locker-rooms.
  • The NJC girls demonstrated all drills.
  • Each Dare Devil was paired with a NJ Colonial to guide, assist, give encouragement, participate in joint drills, and/or coach each player.
  • The two teams finished with a full ice scrimmage.
  • Before a picture was taken at center ice, the two teams had a pin exchange. The Dare Devils were given NJ Colonials pins, and the NJ Colonial girls were given a special pin designed by the Dare Devils players.
